track tuesdays

The mantra for today's track workout was "transcend the physical." My leg was bothering me but I knew it was important to stick with my routine this week. I'd already hauled my butt out of bed to make it to the track at 6 am, so despite some initial hobbling on my warmup, I decided to stick it out and see what happened. The two girls that I can usually keep pace with were not at the track this morning, so it was me, the fast, and the superfast. I clung to the back of the fast pack like a fat kid to a cupcake.  It wasn't pretty but I was able to keep within about 200 yards of those ladies for each of our 6x800m repeats.  Technically, the marathoners were supposed to do 10 repeats. Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh no. Sorry, George. Wasn't going to happen.  Here are my splits, a little slower but much more consistent than last time:

3:45, 3:45, 3:45, 3:47, 3:47, 3:43

Ideally this workout was about volume so we were supposed to take them a little easier. However, I wasn't doing the full 10 and I was trying to keep up with the fast girls, so taking it easy wasn't going to happen. Didn't really get the volume that I was looking for either. If I had to, I probably had another repeat or two in me, but it was definitely for the best that I stopped at 6. If only I had an ice pack and some Aleve at my desk right now.  Only 32 days until MCM, I'm going to pretend that this leg business is all in my head.

  1. Awesome job. And hey, way to finish strong...even if it is only 2 seconds faster than the first one...it is faster and by the end of a workout, that's impressive!
