Weekend Recap/Motivation Monday

I was pretty MIA last week, my apologies.  As the week went on I just got more and more bogged down with work, school, and training.  My class is officially over!  I took the final exam on Thursday night and turned in my final project last night.  I wish I had taken pictures of the studying process on Wednesday night/Thursday morning because it was pretty entertaining.  Four girls, 2 appetizer sampler platters, and bottomless IHOP coffee until 1 am, then back to my place  for more studying until 3:30 am.  Up at 6:30 for work, yikes!   Thanks to the continued use of stimulants (prescribed and not abused, I swear) I was able to get through most of work and then head over to campus for one more hour of studying before the test. Once the evil hard tricky no good test was over, we all headed out for drinks nearby.  My reward was delicious craft beer and house-cut french fries tossed in ranch dressing. Yup, I went there.  Between the lack of sleep and the alcohol I started to crash pretty quickly, so I asked Joe to pick me up and take me back to his place.  I don't even remember if I showered before I passed out.  Probably not.  The next morning was NOT pretty, even though I got 8 hours of sleep.  I was working from home in the morning, thank goodness, and then headed out to Herndon for an afternoon band practice and 6:30 pm gig.
I made the mistake of not having any coffee and the result was not pretty.  By the time the gig rolled around I was face-down in the heat, propped up on a cooler we'd brought with us.  I rallied enough for the one set we had to play before the main act came on and then beat a path home.  By the time the gig was over and everything was broken down I had a massive headache (caffeine withdrawal).  I was home by 9 and in bed by 9:30, hoping against hope that I didn't sleep through my 5:00 am alarm.  The headache woke me  up again at 3:00 am so I stumbled to the bathroom, chowed some Excedrin and went back to bed.  Two hours later the alarm went off and the headache was gone. PHEW!  Time for 12 miles of humid awesomeness. It wasn't pretty but we got it done. I stopped at the grocery store on the way home, stunk up the whole joint, and restocked on some runners pantry items. And maybe that cake from the earlier post...anyways. Back home I ate breakfast and went back to bed.  I didn't have plans until much later in the evening, so there was no problem when I woke up at 4 pm.  It was awesome.  After a long overdue shower I headed to Joe's for the night.  I consumed an excessive amount of sushi and veggie tempura, then crashed on the couch and watched The Fourth Kind.  Out cold in bed by 11:30. WIN.
Sunday was actually productive, since my research project was due the following day. After a delish breakfast of French toast I headed back home and got down to business. Six hours l later I was done!  I walked the hard copy over to a classmate's house since she graciously agreed to pass it in for me tonight (I'll be stuck at work when the deadline passes), emailed a soft copy to my professor, and busted out the wine.  Honestly, it felt a bit anticlimatic.  I was done, but I still needed to wait for my grades. There was no one around to celebrate with.  It was too damn hot to do anything but sit like a lump on the couch and watch reruns of Big Bang Theory.  Despite eating an entire frozen pizza, cake, and 2 glasses of wine, I was still wide awake come midnight. I was not happy.  I reluctantly popped a sleep aid around 12:30 and finally passed out.  The alarm came pretty fast this morning and I could still feel the sleep aid in my system.  It was a very drowsy morning until I got a giant coffee at work.  So far the day has been spent prioritizing all the tasks that had fallen to the side while I was swamped with class.  My desk is a disaster of epic proportions.  I am a little sad that I won't be leaving work early today for class.  I really enjoyed the little group we had.  If this rain doesn't let up I'll be hitting the gym after work tonight.  Now that my schedule is back to normal I can focus more time and energy on my training.  15 miles last week?  Not nearly good enough.
Which brings us to Motivation Monday!  Tell me in the comments how you get your butt out the door on a Monday.  After a weekend of racing or training it can be one of the hardest days to get going. I thought the threat of wearing a bathing suit in 6 days (Florida here I come!) would do it but not so much.  I tried one on last night and then cried.  So no chance of instant results this week but that doesn't mean I can't start putting in the work for future bathing suit humiliations. Remember when I mentioned having a happy weight?  Yeah, not even close.  It probably has nothing to do with me buying entire cakes for myself.  Anyhoo, I'm ready to get my chub in motion, so pump me up!!!! Plans this weekend include tackling the mess of my apartment, running more, and packing for Florida.  I hope time flies until Saturday.  Off to catch up on my blogs!

  1. Wow girl you are so busy! You need like a week long vacation to relax. Great job at getting your 12-miler in despite all the madness. You are a rockstar and hopefully you get some down time here soon because you definitely deserve it. :)

  2. Thanks to you convincing me to run a half marathon, I get my butt out the door for my long runs which happen to be on Mondays for the time being. Your days in Florida will be well earned and I can't wait to spend some time with you!
